FINALLY. After weeks of teasing, the line-up has been revealed.
Not I’m A Celeb, silly. I’m talking about the new Skoda Octavia.
The current Octavia is one of the few cars all motoring journalists admire and the only car all Britain’s cabbies trust.
So, this fourth-generation Octavia needs to please us more than the prospect of watching Ian Wright chewing a turkey’s testicle.
The early signs are good. It’s basically a Volkswagen Golf underneath – same hybrid engines and tech – just bigger and better-value.
The standard family hatch and estate go on sale in March from £19,500, with the vRS and Scout versions following later in the year.
All models are longer and wider, with enough boot space to swallow Jeremy Corbyn’s hate mail.
The hatch is now 600 litres with the rear seats up and the estate swells to 640 litres. That’s best-in-class.
Up front, the kit list includes head-up display – a Skoda first – 10in touchscreen with easy sliding controls below for volume and map zoom, five USB ports, all sorts of driver assistance tech and, of course, a brolly in the side of the door.
Skoda has also worked hard on comfort, with special back-friendly heated, massaging and ventilated front seats – approved by the German Campaign for Healthier Backs, I’m told – wider headrests and window blinds for sleepy little rascals in the back.

All engines are cleaner and more efficient, with 48v mild hybrid petrols (no messy cables) and advanced Euro6d diesels that emit up to 80 per cent less NOx.
Then there is the Octavia iV plug-in hybrid that combines a 1.4-litre petrol and a 75kW electric motor to produce a punchy 204hp, 350Nm of torque and a pure electric driving range of 34 miles.
Skoda’s best-selling car just got even better. Get ’em over here.
