Property is one of the most expensive purchases a person will ever make. Some locations have proven to be more popular than others, according to new research.
The current Help to Buy loan scheme ended last month, with another initiative taking its place this month.
This allows first time buyers to get help with buying their first property.
Those who are taking advantage of the Government discount scheme may favour one region above the rest.
This is according to new data gathered by lettings and estate agent Benham and Reeves.
It shows Bristol had the highest demand for Help to Buy buyers, with 60 percent demand.
This was followed by Portsmouth and Swansea, which both had 50 percent demand.
London, Manchester and Liverpool tied for the number 10 spot with demand sitting at 29 percent.
Leicester, Newport, Edinburgh and Aberdeen showed to be the least popular towns, showing zero percent demand on the data.
Most popular cities
The study gathered data from online real estate company Zoopla.
The percentage was based on how many eligible properties in the city had been taken up by buyers.
Director of Benham and Reeves, Marc von Grundherr, commented: “While the stamp duty holiday has been a great way of boosting market health during a very tough period, further fuelling demand has only helped push house prices further out of reach for many first-time buyers.
“This has made the aspiration of homeownership all the harder.
“It’s clear that many are reliant on a leg up via the Help to Buy scheme as a result, with high demand for homes that qualify in cities all over the UK.”
He explained there is high demand in cities across the UK.
The expert also added the scheme has helped many people to get onto the property ladder.
“Of course, it’s fair to say that Help to Buy in its various forms has also helped drive demand with homebuyers purchasing property that they would otherwise have been unable to afford.”
