Nationwide customers hit with payment issues AGAIN – days after last outage

On social media, people with Nationwide bank accounts complained directly to the building society that expected payments were somehow delayed and not coming in at the right time. This comes after a similar issue with payments resulted in Nationwide being unable to access their money prior to Christmas.

Many shared their outrage over being unable to access wages or crucial benefit payments to make ends meet before the New Year.

Earlier today on Twitter, a user with the account SamanthaCKidd tweeted at Nationwide: “Is there an issue with incoming payments? Both our wages are due today and are normally in by 00:15am.

“We have bills coming out and a food shop that will charge during the early hours. I need to get petrol for my child’s hospital appointment so I need to leave home at 06:00am.”

Nationwide responded: “Hi Samantha, thanks for your message. We are not currently experiencing issues with our incoming payments.

“If the payment has been made via BACs we would expect this to be credited into your account by 6AM within the normal timescales.”

However, over the next couple of hours, the bank received further reports of payment outages from its customers.

One Twitter user named Charles Morrison said: “I’ve had two bills try to come out but Nationwide hasn’t paid me so I can’t put the money into that account, bills that charge late fees.

“Are Nationwide gonna reimburse me for those late fees? Most banks pay you a day early but you can’t even pay us on time?”

Another account with the username LegionProject added: “I was due my Personal Independence Payment (PIP)at midnight today but didn’t come in because of the delay.

“I was about to ring the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) to complain but if its a delay that’s okay as long as it comes in soon.”

Ladyluck93xx said: “Why is there no message on the app to notify us that incoming payments are affected? My wages are supposed to be paid today.

In response to these queries, Nationwide said: “Thanks for the message. Sorry, there’s currently a delay affecting some incoming payments.

“Your payment will be processed and you don’t need to do anything. Apologies for any inconvenience this may cause.”

When asked on Twitter this morning when the issue will be resolved, the building society replied: “We don’t currently have a timescale, we’re sorry for any inconvenience this has caused you.”

In a statement to, a Nationwide Building Society spokesperson said: “There was a delay on members receiving some types of payments to their accounts overnight.

“The issue was quickly resolved this morning and payments are being processed.

“The delay impacted payments such as scheduled credits to accounts, Standing Orders and Direct Debits.

“We apologise for any inconvenience caused. Any member who needs our support as a result of this issue can visit us in branch, contact us on 0800 302 011 or via Twitter.”

The bank emphasised that the outage problem was addressed immediately and is otherwise no longer an issue for its customers.
