I was fined for stopping to give water to my coughing toddler – I'm devastated | The Sun

A MAN has been fined by a private parking firm for stopping his car to give water to his coughing toddler.

The family is outraged after receiving a letter in the post demanding money.

Gabriel Carp from Bracknell was fined £55 at Luton airport in October after pulling over at a bus stop for less than a minute.

His three-year-old toddler, who was sick, started to cough, so Gabriel felt he had no other option than to stop and get him a bottle of water from the boot.

"I am devastated because I can't afford to pay the fine," said Gabriel.

He was heading to the airport to drop off his wife and mother-in-law who were catching a flight to Romania.

"My son started coughing harder and harder and even threw up a little.

"My mother-in-law was in the back seat next to him and could only take care of him temporarily until I could get off the dual carriageway and stop to give him some water from the boot," said Gabriel.

"I couldn't stop on live lanes on the dual carriageway to access the boot, so I decided to make a quick stop at the bus stop next to Holiday Inn Express."

His wife decided to leave the car and walk to the airport entrance because her son was feeling sick.

Gabriel continued: "I dropped them not knowing you can't stop there and went straight back to a car park nearby.

"There I gave my son some fresh air and exercise before the long journey back home to Bracknell," he added.

The family is devastated because his mother-in-law is sick in a hospital in Romania.

A few days later, Gabriel received the Parking Charge Notice stating he was being fined for pausing at the bus stop.

He says it was a one-off, as he usually uses the drop-off areas when he takes a family member to the airport.

The Parking firm that issued the fine has been approached for comment.
