Quartz worktops are highly scratch resistant, but that doesn’t mean they are scratch-proof. So the first thing you should ensure before cleaning is that you’re always using a chopping board when cooking or preparing food. This will prevent any unnecessary scratches to the surface, but will also do your knives a favour and stop them going blunt. If you follow adequate care steps to cleaning your quartz worktop or surface, you can ensure its longevity and it will look good as new for years to come – here’s how.
How to clean a Quartz worktop
Day-to-day cleaning is highly appreciated by quartz, and this is something you’re recommended to do.
A daily clean up can be easily handled, and all you need is soap, water and a soft rag.
Instead of soap, you can also opt to use a mild detergent, which will do the job just as well.
Using this mixture, wipe the countertops once a day with a clean cloth, wherever possible.
For a deeper clean, you should consider glass or window cleaner to really get the job done.
Spray the cleaner onto the surface and let it sit with the stone for a few minutes.
This will ensure maximum contact between the product and the worktop, enhancing the overall clean.
After you’ve let it rest for a while, rinse the chemical off with a wet, clean cloth.
If you’re trying to get grease off of your counter, the first rule is to never use bleach.
Instead, use a degreasing cleaner that doesn’t contain bleach and spray your slabs with that.
After you’ve let it rest for a couple of minutes, rinse it off with a wet cloth.
Even though quartz is generally a highly stain resistant material, some liquids like coffee and wine will still leave a stain.

So make sure that if you spill a cappuccino or your evening glass or Merlot, you use an adhesive remover to clean up the stain as soon as possible.
Once the stain has dried and fully infiltrated the surface, it will be 10 times more difficult to get it out.
Let the remover sit on the surface for five to 10 minutes, then remove with a soft cloth.
Once the stain has been removed, clean the countertops with warm water, after which your counter should be good as new.
How NOT to clean a quartz worktop
Highly acidic and alkaline cleaning agents can hugely damage the surface of your worktop.
Cleansers to avoid are:
- Oven cleaner
- Drain cleaners
- Dishwasher rinsing agents
- Methylene Chloride
If any of these chemical cleaners come into contact with your countertops, neutralise its effect by immediately cleaning with water.
