Cleaning star Mrs Hinch, whose full name is Sophie Hinchliffe, garnered popularity after sharing her cleaning tips and recommendations on social media and TV. The cleaning enthusiast has managed to gain over 4.3 million followers on Instagram. Now, fans of hers have created their own social media groups dedicated to cleaning and tidying tips.

One of the groups, which has 631,000 members, receives hundreds of tips each day.

Facebook user Stacey Jane Woolley posted on the group: “Help! Smelly washing machine.

“I have tried numerous washing machine cleaners and the drum smells!

“Washing machine is around 12 months old… I just don’t know what else to do.”

Stacey’s post was inundated with almost 100 comments on the Facebook group.

The most suggested comment was to use soda crystals in the washing machine.

Sonia Smith said: “One scoop of soda crystals in every wash. Good luck, hope you get it sorted.”

Janet Pool Hulme replied: “Soda crystals on the hottest wash.

“Add some Zoflora for a nice smell. Can use soda crystals down the sink too pouring hot water after them.”

Diane Wilson said: “Soda crystals in with every wash, only thing that shifted mine.”

Tracey Knight commented: “Every now and again I run mine empty with a big scoop of soda crystals, when the machine is not being used I leave the softener drawer open a few inches and the door open

“Washing always smells nice and fresh when it comes out.”

Marilyn Crooks said: “Run an empty cycle with soda crystals.”

Jackie Mitchell wrote: “Add soda crystals as pre-wash.”

Dri-Pak Soda Crystals cost just 80p from Ocado and Sainsbury’s.

Wilko Original Soda Crystals cost £1.50.

Other suggestions from Mrs Hinch fans included using Dettol, dishwasher tablets and bleach.

Diane Whiteley said: “Dettol mildew spray around the rubbers leave five minutes and wipe off the excess.

“Put a dishwasher tablet in and wash at 90C.

“Will smell beautiful. Don’t forget after or before to take out the drawer and clean it out well, and up inside the drawer case too because this can get dirty too.”

Dee Gee replied: “Put it on a boil wash with bleach in.

“I know bleach only works better with cold water but I do this regularly and it works for me.

“Leave the door open when it’s not in use.”

Sue Jeffery said: “Dishwasher tablet on a hot wash.”
