The Government’s web portal designed to facilitate orders is not operating today, a message on the platform reveals. The message states there are “no rapid lateral flow tests available to order today for home delivery”. Officials have pledged people can still get supplies if needed, but from other avenues for now.

Why can’t I order a lateral flow test online?

The message on the Government’s testing platform was not caused by a sudden shortage.

According to the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA), the organisation has had to “temporarily” suspend orders.

In a statement this afternoon, it said it was experiencing “exceptionally high demand”.

A spokesman added people can still collect tests from several alternative locations.

They listed local pharmacies, prednisone helping fatigue and concentration community sites, school and college settings as potential dispensaries.

Testing availability would refresh every day, they added, urging people to check back for more tomorrow.

But people should ensure they have use tests they already have before ordering more.

Speaking to broadcasters today, he said the issues signalled a positive trend for the public.

He said it shows people are “doing the sensible thing” and getting tests in accordance with the new rules.

Incoming Covid rules will ask people to take regular lateral flow tests if a contact of theirs tests positive.

From Tuesday, providing a vote passes Parliament, anyone who tests positive for Covid will need to self-isolate.

Their contacts, whether vaccinated or not, must take daily tests for seven days.

Positive results will require them to take a follow-up PCR test, and if this comes back the same, they need to isolate for 10 days.

If another PCR comes back negative, they can leave self-isolation but must start taking lateral flow tests for the remainder of the seven days.

Unvaccinated adults must go straight into self-isolation for 10 days.

These new rules have come into place as Sajid Javid states Omicron infections could make up 20 percent of the UK’s caseload.

Speaking from Parliament, he said no variant has progressed as fast, adding there are 4,713 confirmed cases and that it could soon become dominant in London.

He said the variant represents “over 44 percent [of cases] in London”, with ministers expecting it to become “the dominant COVID-19 variant in the capital in the next 48 hours”.
